Matt Targett says the players need to give the Villa Park crowd something to cheer on Boxing Day.
A raucous home support could help make the difference as the team head into a big clash against Norwich City.
And Targett, who only joined Aston Villa in July, is already well aware of how important the atmosphere inside the stadium can be.
He said: “They’ve [the fans] been fantastic with us all season. They do make such a huge difference to us – they’re our 12th man.
“When they’re up and the noise is so loud, it’s incredible to play football in front of them. We know that it’s our job to get them off their feet and give them something to shout about.
“We haven’t done that enough recently, so we know we have to look at ourselves first and do our jobs.”
Villa are on a poor run of form in the Premier League, losing their last four matches.
According to the full-back, he and his teammates have to stick together and come through a tough run by putting in a big performance against Norwich.
He said: “There’s lot of quality in this team and it’s time to show our character. We need to put on a performance for the fans and for the club and get a big three points.
“You win a couple and the table looks so different. We need to focus on the next game and getting three points.”
