At a glance

Aston Villa are back in the Premier League!

The countdown is finally over and we make our top-flight return in front of the watching world at Spurs on Saturday evening.

After a busy summer that has seen 12 signings arrive at the club and five wins from five in pre-season, it all gets going once again at Tottenham’s state-of-the-art new stadium.

Team news

James Chester is the only confirmed absentee from Dean Smith’s matchday squad.

The skipper picked up a hamstring injury in the pre-season win at Shrewsbury Town and will be out until late August.

A host of new signings are set to be included, with Smith also not ruling out Douglas Luiz, despite the midfielder only arriving at Bodymoor Heath on Wednesday.

Spurs’ Heung-Min Son and Juan Foyth won’t play as both are still serving suspensions from last season.

New signing Ryan Sessegnon is also unavailable due to a hamstring injury, while Dele Alli will be absent with the same problem.

Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Ben Davies have all returned to training this week, and have a chance of featuring on Saturday evening.

Ways to watch

The match will be live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.

The Boss

Dean Smith

“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a really good game to start with.

“You never know what’s going to happen on the first day. So why not face a Champions League finalist?

“We feel we are coming into it off the back of a lot of momentum. We’ve got an awful lot done.

“The excitement starts now.”
