James Chester produced a typically-assured display on his Stoke City debut to help them to a 3-1 win over Andre Green’s Charlton Athletic at the weekend.

Chester slotted in alongside Danny Batth at centre-back and played the full 90 minutes, while Green caught the eye in defeat, providing the assist for Charlton’s first-half equaliser.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Scott Hogan started and scored as Birmingham City came from behind to beat Bristol City 3-1, but James Bree had a disappointing afternoon in Wales with Luton Town falling to a 1-0 loss at Cardiff City, with the defender completing 90 minutes.

In League One, Callum O’Hare received praise from Coventry City fans as he played through a nasty facial injury to complete the full game in a 2-1 win against Bolton Wanderers.

Jacob Ramsey followed up his debut brace by starting Doncaster Rovers’ 1-1 draw with Rochdale, while in League Two, Jake Doyle-Hayes’ Cheltenham Town were beaten 1-0 by Scunthorpe United.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy scored the first goal of his spell with Derby County against Leeds United’s Under-23s on Friday night, but Lovre Kalinic wasn’t so fortunate in France, as he came off injured in the first half of Toulouse’s 1-0 defeat to Marseille.

Lewis Brunt, Jake Walker and Ben Guy featured in non-league for Gloucester City, Banbury United and Belper Town respectively, with Brunt picking up the Man of the Match award for his display.
